Hidden Mickeys at the Magic Kingdom Park

The Walt Disney World Resort has been known to create new fads throughout the years – think pin trading, park hopping – and, last but not least – hidden Mickey spotting. Hidden Mickeys are non-descript objects in and around the Walt Disney World Resort that form the shapes of Mickey heads. Legend has it that hidden Mickeys first started in the 1980’s in Epcot by Imagineers who thought it would be fun to add these objects in and around the park. After the idea caught fire – and the attention of guests who spotted this hidden homage to Mickey Mouse – Imagineers began to incorporate hidden Mickeys into every area of the Walt Disney World Resort, and still continue to do so today. And while there is no official “list” of hidden Mickeys, there are hundreds of web sites and even books devoted on the topic, and many people visit the parks solely in search of seeing these popular images and discovering never-before-seen hidden Mickeys.

While there are hundreds of hidden Mickeys littered around the four Walt Disney World theme parks, there are many that are highly recognizable to the Disney faithful. The Magic Kingdom Park is home to many of these hidden Mickey staples, as there are hidden Mickeys in nearly every shop and attraction in the park. From a cloud hidden Mickey in the riverboat scene near the end of Splash Mountain to the cactus forming a Mickey head in the garden of Mickey’s house in Mickey’s Toontown Fair, these images are literally around every turn of this theme park.

However, if you are one of the regulars who frequently go in search of hidden Mickeys, or if are just beginning your search, you are going to need tickets to access the Walt Disney World theme parks! We here at OrlandoFunTickets.com are here to not only help you find these hidden Mickeys, but also to give you a special discounted rate on tickets into the Magic Kingdom Park and all of the other local attractions in Central Florida, including Universal Orlando and Sea World Orlando. Now that you have your tickets lined up, it is time to spot those hidden Mickeys! Below is a look at some of the most popular hidden Mickeys at the Magic Kingdom Park.

  • On Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, many people may suggest that there are several hidden Mickeys throughout the ride. However, it is largely believed that there is only one hidden Mickey placed by Imagineers here – as you are about to re-enter the train station at the end of the ride, look over to the right of the track. There are three rusty gears laying on the grass that form the shape of a Mickey head!
  • This one may be tough to spot, but at the right time of the afternoon or early evening, the sun will cast a hidden Mickey shadow on the ground from the street lamps that surround the entrance to Main Street U.S.A.
  • On the Pirate’s of the Caribbean attraction, look for hidden Mickeys on the ironwork on the bottom of the four lamps on the left side.
  • As mentioned above, look for Mickey lying on his back in the pink clouds to the right of the Zip-A-Dee Lady paddle wheeler in the steamboat scene of the attraction.
  • In Mickey’s Country House, there are hidden Mickeys everywhere! You can find them on the fence posts, above the front doors in the window, on the front hall mirror, on the bedroom rug, on the picture frames in the living room, on the ping-pong paddles in the recreation room, in the backyard hedge and amongst the pumpkins and tomatoes in the garden out back!
  • On It’s A Small World, in the Africa scene, look for a hidden Mickey in the purple flowers on a vine on the elephant’s left side.
  • One of the most notorious hidden Mickeys at the Magic Kingdom Park is still debatable on whether or not it is intentional – some Cast Members insist that it is merely coincidence! But whether it was meant to be or not, in the Haunted Mansion attraction banquet scene, as you are looking down at the ghosts dancing around – pay special attention to the plate arrangement on the banquet table!
  • Also on the Haunted Mansion, in the graveyard scene, the left hand of the Grim Reaper forms a Mickey outline with his fingers.
  • On the Jungle Cruise attraction, in the dark temple, look at the steps – there are three plates among the treasure that form a hidden Mickey!
  • Also, as you exit the Cambodian temple, pay special attention to the third column from the end as you come out of the tunnel. This column has a chipped brick on the third block from the ceiling, revealing a hidden Minnie Mouse head!
  • If you are outside the Yankee Trader Shop, look for a hidden Mickey on the ground. A water utility cover serves as Mickey’s head, while two hoof prints engraved in the cement serve as his ears.
  • On the Carousel of Progress, there are several hidden Mickeys, including: a Sorcerer Mickey abstract painting on the dining room wall, a plush Mickey hiding amongst the presents under the Christmas tree and a Nutcracker Mickey that sits on the fireplace mantel – all in the last scene of the ride.
  • If you stay for the Wishes fireworks show at the end of the day, look for a hidden Mickey illuminated on the tallest tower of Cinderella Castle.
  • As you are leaving the Magic Kingdom Park (this one is easier to see in the daytime!), stand facing the Main Street Train Station with your back to the castle. If you stand right in front of it and look up, you will see circles on the ceiling that reveal a hidden Mickey. Also, on the roof scrollwork on top of the station, if you look really hard you can see hidden Mickeys in the design!
